Functionality included: Ramp control, Voltage support, Power factor correction, Droop frequency response, AGC response, Renewable firming, Scheduled charge / discharge, Energy time shift, Responsive Reserves, and Curtailment Capture.
For Younicos, Richard led the charge to integrate control system pieces from multiple teams around an Active MQ message broker. This enabled multiple teams working in different programming languages (LabVIEW, Java, C, PHP, javascript) and different hardware platforms to communicate using enterprise integration messaging patterns.
At Indie Energy, Richard developed a scalable, message-based control system based on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Internet of Things (IoT) platform. AWS's IoT platform is a managed service that can easily scale to millions of devices.
